A Kerala story,
made to be shared.

A Kerala food staple, made for the meals that bring people together.

Pulikali, percussion and the tiled roofs of Thrissur

For more than forty years, Janatha has made the familiar round that completes a Kerala meal.

Janatha Pappadam is based in Thrissur, Kerala. We make classic urad dal pappadam for everyday rice and curry, festive sadya, and family gatherings.

What began with local shops and households around Thrissur and Palakkad now travels across India. The distance has changed. The pappadam has not.

Made in Kerala’s cultural heart.

Thrissur carries culture into the street. Pooram gathers percussion and pageantry around Vadakkunnathan. During Onam, Pulikali turns bodies into leaping tigers and roads into a moving canvas.

Our own tradition is quieter, but it belongs to the same place: careful hands, regular batches, and food made for gathering.

Only what belongs in a pappadam.

Ours begins with urad dal, not maida. There are no artificial colours or added flavouring, and no heavy hand with the raising agent. The aim is simple: a clean, light bite that tastes of dal rather than oil.

  • Made in small, regular batches in Thrissur
  • Two familiar sizes for everyday meals and sadya
  • Sealed to reach your kitchen whole

The crunch in the middle of Onam.

On a sadya leaf, pappadam is not decoration. Crush it into parippu and rice, keep it crisp beside avial and olan, or save a piece for payasam. Every family has its own ritual.

That is what we make for: pookkalams on the floor, a long row of banana leaves, familiar voices in the next room, and one last hot pappadam arriving from the kitchen.

From an old South Asian food tradition to a Kerala table today

There is more history in this little round than its size suggests.
